10,000 MW electricity to be generated from Thar coal by 2020

KARACHI: Government is planning to generate 10,000 MW electricity from Thar coal by 2020.

The government of Sindh spokesman said Saturday that Sixteen billion rupees will be spent on coal, wind solar and other power projects this year in Sindh to produce electricity.

The Thar cola deposits are 6th largest coal reserves in the world, were discovered in 1991 by Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) and the United States Agency for International Development.

It is said that the deposits can fulfil country’s demand for next hundred years.
