Eid al-Fitr 2015: Australia likely to celebrate on July 18

SYDNEY: Australian Muslims are likely to celebrate the holy festival Eid al-Fitr on July 18, the feast after 29 days of fasting in Ramadan.

According to scientific calculations the moon of Shawwal is expected to sight in Australia on Friday.

The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) recognizes astronomical calculation as an acceptable Shar’i method for determining the beginning of Lunar months including the months of Ramadan and Shawwal.

FCNA uses Makkah al-Mukarrama as a conventional point and takes the position that the conjunction must take place before sunset in Makkah and moon must set after sunset in Makkah.
