Highlights: 3rd Test, Day four – Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 2015

PALLEKELE: Imran Khan bowled a fabulous spell to take his maiden five-for. He generally bowled in the corridor of uncertainty to trouble the batsmen. However, Angelo Mathews, with his well-constructed ton seemed to have put them in a position of strength. Masood and Younis though had other ideas.

Pakistan took shaky start and lost its both openers for 13 runs. It was Lakmal again who started to cruise Pakistani opening line-up, when he took his 50th Tests wicket after dismissing Shehzad for none! A good length delivery that just came back in off the seam, Shehzad played down the wrong line, left a gap between bat and pad and it uprooted the off pole.  This was the first duck for Shehzad in Tests.

At the Teaof Day 4, Shan Masood and Younis Khan steadied the innings after losing early wickets against the new ball. Pakistan though, have a mountain to climb as they are chasing a target of 377. For the home team, Dhammika Prasad and Suranga Lakmal bowled with zest and vigour and were rewarded with a wicket each. Prasad, in particular, snared the key wicket of Azhar Ali. Azhar though, would be disappointed as he got out strangling down the leg-side.

At the Stumps of Day 4, Younis Khan and Shan Masood strung together an unbeaten 217-run stand for the third wicket to give the visitors genuine hope of pulling off a memorable win. Masood went on to compile his first Test ton. Younis also composed a century and that too in the last over of the day. It was his 30th Test hundred. In fact, after they lost wickets up front, Younis and Masood looked to take the initiative away from the opposition ranks with a slew of fine shots. They took a heavy toll off Kaushal and that resulted in the hosts’ key spinner losing the plot. Prasad and Lakmal bowled with spunk and spirit with the new ball, but lacked the support. The hosts also let things drift away and lacked that intensity in the field.
