Gujranwala train accident: Investigation team made Shocking revelations  

GUJRANWALA: Shocking revelations have been made during investigation of fetal Gujranwala train accident which claimed 19 lives including 12 Army officials, when three bogies of a special train carrying army officials fell into a canal and one other was derailed as a railway bridge collapsed near Gujranwala on Thursday, local media reported.

According to sources, an investigation team while visiting the affected railway bridge found out bolts and fish plates [fish plate is a metal or wooden plate that is bolted to the sides at the ends of two rails or beams, to join them] some 400 meters away from the accident spot, as well as some frictional scratches on the track, which indicates that everything is not OK with it.

Earlier, Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique while talking to media on Thursday had said the possibility of sabotage could not be ruled out in the tragedy.

While, the eyewitnesses of the accident have been quoted as saying that the train had lost its balance and derailed before it came up on the bridge.

At least 17 people died on Thursday and 85 were injured when four bogies of a special train carrying Pakistan military troops and their families to Kharian fell into a canal near Jamke Chattha in Gujranwala.
