36 killed as Philippines ferry capsized

MANILA: A boat carrying 173 passengers has capsized off the coast of the Philippines, killing at least 36 people, CNN reported.

A Philippines boat MB Nirvana departed Ormoc City at around 12 p.m overturned minutes after it left the cast.

 The Coastal Guards believe that the accident happened due to high wind big waves, leaving dozens of drowned and many missing.

Almost 118 have survived ferry accident, while many are still missing.

The boat, which was 27 meters long, was barely 200 meters from the shore line, according to Philippine Coast Guard Lieutenant Christopher Ganet.

He said those who have been rescued are being taken to local hospitals in the area around Ormoc.
