Letter to the Editor: Who Are Rohingya Muslims?

I wanted to thank you for the article “ Saeed Ajmal Takes Positive Step to Help Rohingya Muslims”.

It is heartwarming to know people with social influence are using their status to help those who are less fortunate. I appreciate how you not only identified the situation in Myanmar as a genocide, but also pointed out that it is fueled by intolerance for Islam.

Something the article did not mention, which I feel is important to understanding the situation, is that the Rohingyas are indigenous to Myanmar, and are not migrants from Bangladesh as the Myanmar government claims. The genocide of the Rohingyans is saddening, and I hope the awareness this article raises helps to end it.
