JAKARTA – An Indonesian military plane crashed shortly after take-off in a residential area, and killed at least five people on Tuesday.
According to international media, there were 12 crew on plane when it crashed and police said that at least five people were so far confirmed dead, and there is possibility of more casualties.
Large crowds and emergency services gathered around the flaming fragments of plane shortly after the crash in the city of Medan.
While talking to media, a local resident said, “I saw the plane from the direction of the airport and it was tilting already, then I saw smoke blowing”.
According to Indonesian military official, a plane was transporting military equipment from Medan.
The plane took off 12:08 pm local time from an air force base and crashed in the city about two minutes later, about five kilometers from the base, he said.
