UN Secretary General offers assistance to Pakistan to deal with heatwave

NEW YORK – Secretary General of United Nations, Ban ki-Moon has offered help to Pakistan to deal with deadly heatwave in Karachi and other parts of interior Sindh.

While talking to media, the spokesperson of UN secretary General said that the United Nations would respond positively if a request comes from Pakistan to deal with the situation.

However, the spokesperson added Pakistan has so far not requested for UN assistance in dealing with the crisis.

It is pertinent to mention that the death toll from an ongoing heatwave in Pakistan’s economic hub and provincial capital has passed the figure of 1100.

According to the sources, thousands of people are being treated in Karachi hospitals and some of them are in serious condition. Hot weather is not unusual during this time of year in Karachi, but prolonged power cuts seem to have made matters worse for the locals.
