Islamabad – Pakistan Tehreek Insaf has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court to ensure participation of overseas Pakistanis in next general elections referring it to previous court order to make legislation for overseas voting.
Dr. Arif Alvi, Coordinator PTI from Sindh, while speaking to media in Islamabad has said tha PTI had filed a petition in 2011 in which the supreme court directed the election commision to make all necessary arrangements to enable overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes in elections.
“The order was never implemented, in fact an ordinance was issued which also not been implemented. People who contributed billions in national economy are being kept deprived of voting. ” Dr. Alvi added.
PTI leader told that elections commission has clearly stated in Elections Reforms Committee of national assembly that electronic voting for overseas Pakistan is not possible.
He said that PTI has also invocation for bio-metric system of voting in elections but Election Commission excused to do so.
“If millions of mobile sims can be verified through bio-metric system, why cant elections be held through this process?” Arif Alvi argued.
Arif Alvi explained tha the incompetency of national institutions provide opportunities for rigging in elections, hence country cannot prosper.
