LAHORE – The opposition parties of Punjab Assembly have staged protest on the completion of one year of the Model Town incident.
The Opposition sought the permission to debate the incident but Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Iqbal rejected the request after which disruption started in the House. Opposition also staged protest on the stairs of the Assembly building and shouted slogans against the Punjab government.
On June 17, 2014, at least 14 workers of Dr Tahirul Qadri’s party, Pakistan Awami Tehrik, were killed and 90 others were injured in clashes with the Punjab Police in Model Town, Lahore.
A joint investigation team probing the deadly clashes held 10 police officers responsible, while giving a clean chit to the Prime Minister, the Punjab Chief Minister and the Punjab Law Minister.
While addressing a press conference, PAT Central President Dr Raheeq Abbasi said the findings of the JIT report were completely false and the party would hold countrywide protest against this.
