Hitler’s secret champagne basement discovered in Germany

BERLIN: The Nazi leader Adolf Hitler’s secret cellar where he stored rare cognac and champagne has been found in the grounds of an old castle in Germany.

Restaurant owner Silvio Stelzer discovered the hiding place during a renovation project after buying a villa in the grounds of the Wasserschloss Moritzburg estate in Saxony in 2007.

The Mail Online in its exclusive report claimed that the cognac and other luxuries, looted from France during the Second World War were hidden in six deep cellars under a mound of earth in the park grounds in 1944.

Stelzer later introduced the cellars to historians to research what happened to the vast stockpiles of food and drink that once resided there.

‘Investigations showed that the S.S. on Hitler’s order, hid gigantic stores of cognac and champagne here,’ he said.

A book was found during the renovations from the last owner of the castle, Prince Ernst Heinrich of Saxony who left in 1971, testifying to the existence of the loot.

The report claims that Hitler neither drank nor smoked but he supplied his officers with the finest food and wines from lands conquered by the Nazis and always set out to impress visiting dignitaries with his personal stash.

The records show the food and drink was moved to the castle grounds in as Berlin crumbled under the assault of Allied bombers by day and night in 1944.
