Businesses, Transport, Exams Suspended In Karachi

KARACHI – Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) observed day of mourning to protest worker’s killing in police custody. The business activities remained closed in various cities of Sindh, including Karachi.

With thin transport on roads, the markets and business activities remained closed in various cities of Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad.

MQM has appealed transporters and traders to suspend public transport and commercial activities in Karachi where filling stations were also shut.

All examination papers have been postponed in educational institutions including University of Karachi and Jinnah University. Intermediate Board also announced to postpone the papers scheduled for today. New dates for the papers will be announced later.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah formed a high level committee to probe the murder of MQM activist and announced compensation for the bereaved family.

It should be mentioned here that Waseem Dehlavi, an MQM worker was tortured to death by police personnel at the Aziz Bhatti police station in Wednesday.

Post-mortem was conducted at Jinnah Hospital. The medical report confirmed that Waseem passed away owing to cardiac arrest resulting from a head injury.

The death prompted MQM to announced two-day mourning for Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, a murder case was registered against the personnel at their own police station on the orders of Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali.
