Govt adopts strict policy about internet

ISLAMABAD – Federal government has decided to resume the free internet data access and impose 17 percent GST over it on Tuesday.

According to sources, the cellular companies are being fearful of the tax imposition on 3G and 4G data services, adding that it would put burden on the shoulders of customers.

Sources said that government was thinking to increase the FED from 18.5%, to 19.5%, in Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, Balochistan and Azad Kashmir. However in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and Sindh it had already been imposed.

Cell phone consumers were paying taxes in different forms which included mobile phone sales tax ranging from 150 to 500 rupees, similarly IMEI tax ranging from 150 to 500, said sources.

Furthermore, government receives 250 rupees tax for activating SIM, FED 18 percent, advance tax 14 percent and banking transfer charges included 14 percent FED.
