GHQ To Be Shifted To Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army has decided to shift its base from Rawalpindi to Islamabad on Sunday.

The same location that has been chosen which the then, Army Chief, General Pervez Musharraf had inaugurated in 2004.

The implementation to shift GHQ, from Rawalpindi to Islamabad got delayed due to regional and international scenarios.

However, some officials at that time were of the view to establish GHQ away from a populated area, and Kallarkahar was viewed as the best location.

The then Army Chief General Musharraf wanted to shift to Islamabad so that all the three Armed Forces Institutions headquarters were brought to a same place. He was of the opinion that such a step would enhance the Forces Capabilities.

Pervez Musharraf during inauguration ceremony at that time had said that the new GHQ complex would consists of all basic facilities such as Health, Education, Residence  and sports ground etc.

According to sources, the plan of shifting GHQ to Islamabad was made after the terrorists attack launched against Musharraf in 2003.

However, the plan was opposed by the then opposition parties in the parliament claiming that the land was bought on a low cost, told sources.
