3 tips to tame the shopaholic in every human being

Shopping temptations are everywhere literally – you don’t believe – come on, look closer. You woke up in the morning with a buzzing alarm. You checked your phone, maybe Facebook or Instagram feeds and there were many brands displaying their best products with subtle calls-to-shop.

Then maybe you turned on the TV, which is full of advertisement after advertisement. Next, you leave for work and while driving, plenty of billboards bombard you.

Finally, you reach your office and there, your colleague is talking about the flawless white chiffon button down crisp shirt she bought from XYZ brand.

See my point here; shopping temptations are haunting you 24/7. They are actually in your face, demanding you to take action ASAP. Often you succumb to your desires and ends up buying lots of unnecessary stuff.

So what should you do? Let’s discuss three tips to quench your shopping thirst;

1. “Quarterly Shopping Spree”

Yes, it does not sound very wise but listen up. You end up buying unnecessary stuff more than often. So how about you just give up and save a chunk of money for your “Quarterly Shopping Spree”.

Look at the upside, that way whenever you are tempted to buy something, you will put that in a list. Sorry, you have to maintain a list for this plan to work.  Eventually, less compulsive decisions will lead to better decisions.

There is also a possibility that you remove many items from your list because you might not find them useful at present.

However, getting yourself to agree for this shopping-spree-every-quarter idea might be a tad bit difficult but it’s going to be damn useful in the long run.

2. Coupons, Sales, Discounts, Buy-one-get-one-free deals and related details

Being a shopaholic, you must know about coupons, sales, buy-one-get-one-free deals, discounts and what not.

Another clause for “Quarterly Shopping Spree” includes using your knowledge and starting the shopping ritual with these great offers.

There are so many to choose from like winter discounts, back-to-school offers, Backcountry coupon etc. So every quarter you have great choices.

3. Rules are meant to be broken

This shopping-spree-every-quarter seems like a good idea but it’s based on too many rules. And too many rules mean they can be broken anytime.

So it’s advisable to not follow it religiously or as it is. Add or subtract your own rules. You might do a spree twice a year or maybe every three months – whatever is comfortable.

Ultimately, all we are trying to do here is to control ourselves in terms of shopping. As long as we achieve that goal, it doesn’t matter which rule worked or which didn’t.

That’s the way to handle shopaholics. Do you agree with this? Or do you have any better idea to jail the shopaholic in every human being? Please share your views.
