MOSCOW – Naval ships of Russia and China have practiced underway replenishment and escort operations in the course of Naval Interaction 2015 exercises in the Mediterranean Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.
“The combined naval group of Russia and China practiced underway replenishment, cargo transfer and escorting missions during the daylight period,” ministry spokesman for the Navy Capt. 1st Class Igor Dygalo told, according to Russian News Agency.
“Russian Navy and the Navy of the People’s Liberation Army of China ships held a joint practice of maritime escorts, in a drill episode simulating the protection of safe shipping in remote areas of the World Ocean,” he said.
“In the night time, from May 19 to 20, the combined group of Russian and Chinese warships practiced troop control by use of lighted aids,” Dygalo said.
A group consisting of the Moskva guided missile cruiser, the Ladny frigate, the Alexander Shabalin and Alexander Otrakovsky landing ships, the Samum air-cushion missile ship, the MB-31tugboat, the Linyin and Weifang frigates and the Weishanhu supply ship are holding the Naval Interaction 2015 drills in eastern parts of the Mediterranean.
