LONDON – Former captain of English cricket team Andrew Strauss has been appointed as the England and Wales Cricket Board’s director.
The governing body announced the decision on Saturday. Strauss has been twice an Ashes-winner captain. Owing to his overwhelming popularity in the domain of success, he has been designated for the post of director of cricket in England.
Before Strauss, the post was occupied by Paul Downtown. After Downtown’s sacking as managing director, Strauss has been given the charge of handling cricket related affairs in England.
England Cricket Board’s (ECB) chief executive Tom Harrison, who led the recruitment process, said in a statement that Andrew’s breadth of ideas, his passion for England cricket and his proven leadership skills had shone out.
He further said that Strauss was an exceptional England captain and that he was an authoritative voice in the modern game with wealth of experience to build a successful English team.
