UK elections: Altaf Hussain contesting on Conservative Party ticket

LONDON: Altaf Hussain is contesting election on the ticket of the Conservative Party from the Swansea East seat in the country’s general election being held today.

The candidate should not be confused with the Pakistani politician Altaf Hussain, the leader of one of Pakistan’s major political parties, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), who lives in exile in London.

The candidate fielded by the Conservative Party is a doctor by profession.

Dr Altaf Hussain is a retired NHS Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon formerly based at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil. He was born in Srinagar, Kashmir. He currently lives in Bridgend.

Dr Hussain is a community councilor and is currently area chairman of the Welsh Conservative Party in South Wales West.
