ISLAMABAD – Senate introduced a historical “public petition system” on Tuesday under which the general public would be able to lodge their complaints directly in the upper house.
The system was inaugurated by Chairman Senate Mr. Raza Rabbani in Parliament house.
In public petition system, the general public would be able to convey their complaints through post or electronic mail.
While speaking on the occasion Raza Rabbani said that the new mechanism shall empower the general public and that it would help to improve the transparency of Parliament.
He further added that the rural public could send their complaints to the Senate through post and that the messages related to the governance issues shall also be entertained
Secretary Senate Amjad Pervaiz, on the occasion of inauguration, stated that each complaint shall be given a tracking ID for the subsequent follow up.
Senate Deputy Chairman Abdul Ghafoor Haideri highlighted the role of Senate in the parliamentary system, adding that the upper house still lacked key powers.
Leaders of the opposition Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Raja Zafar ul Haq and many others praised the development and called it a method of easing the complex problems being faced by the general public
