17 Soldier including 2 civilians killed in Egypt Sinai attacks

CAIRO: As many as 17 people were killed including 15 soldiers when Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants launched an attack on a checkpoint of security forces.

According to reports, the soldiers were killed in five simultaneous attacks on Thursday which targeted security forces checkpoints in Egypt’s North Sinai.

This is the same site where the army is battling the local branch of the Islamic State group, police said.

Gunmen opened fire on soldiers with automatic rifles and rockets at separate checkpoints south of Sheikh Zuweid, east of the provincial capital of El-Arish, police officials told AFP.
