Australia knock defending champions India out of World Cup

SYDNEY: Australia have beaten defending champions India by 95 runs in the 2nd semifinal of ICC cricket World Cup at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

India chasing 329 went off to a flying start as Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma scored 76 runs for the first wicket.

Dhawan lost his wicket after scoring 45. That wicket opened the gate for Australia as their bowlers were able to keep getting wickets just at the right time.

Australian bowlers removed Virat Kohli, Rohait Sharma and Suresh Raina in span of a few runs.

Skipper MS Dhoni and Ajinkya Rahane showed some resistance against the Aussies bowling but unable to take the side home.

Indian side were all out on 233 runs. James Faulkner picked up two wickets while Mitchell Starc picked up two.

Steven Smith was named for man of the match for his outstanding century.

Earlier, Australia had won the toss and elected to bat first against India, as the Aussies lost their first wicket with just 14 runs on the score board.

Then Steven Smith and Aaron Finch posted 182 runs partnership for second wicket and guide the total to 197 runs mark.

Smith was that man dismissed after scoring outstanding 105 while Finch lost his wicket after scoring 81.

Shane Watson smashed 28 to guide the total to 320 runs.

Umesh Yadav picked up four wickets for Indian side.

Australia will face New Zealand in the final of the tournament on Sunday which will be played at Melbourne Cricket ground.
