LAHORE: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Sirajul Haq has welcomed the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s announcement to support Mian Raza Rabbani for Chairman Senate slot.
In a statement issued here, he said that it was welcome step that political leadership evolved consensus and in a conciliatory move government supported opposition’s candidate.
He demanded that for reconciliation and political harmony, the slot of Deputy Chairman Senate be given to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Inaf so that it could be brought in to the Parliament.
Sirajul Haq also congratulated Raza Rabbani for being joint candidate of Opposition and the government.
It is to be mentioned here that earlier Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while addressing a luncheon meeting of political leaders announced the government’s support for Raza Rabbani.
During a meeting at the PM house, the premier further said that the appointment of a chairman for Senate should be decided after consultations with all parties.
The luncheon meeting was held in honour of political leaders and heads from PPP, Awami National Party (ANP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), Pakistan National party (PNP) and Pashtunkhwai Milli Awami Party (PKMP) attended the meeting.
The premier said that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) initiated the process of holding consultations with all political leaders to come to a consensus on national issues, which yielded positive results.
