PTI to take every step to stop horse-trading in Senate’s elections: Imran Khan

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has warned all political parties including the party’s members of assemblies that he would take every step to stop horse-trading in the upcoming Senate’s elections.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting with party’s lawmakers in Peshawar, the PTI chief said if a majority does not vote for the party’s nominated candidate, he will have no option but to dissolve the KP assembly.

He questioned that PPP had awarded tickets to three candidates despite having only five members in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

On the same line, he said JUI-F  has fielded two candidates with 17 members. Despite the fact that any candidate needed 17 votes to secure the membership of Senate, he said.

Imran said that opposition parties in Balochistan were also complaining about votes being bought for the Senate’s election.

“Why doesn’t the Election Commissioner take notice of selling and buying of votes? The way election is being contested cannot be described as democracy,” added Khan.

The PTI chief said that he has informed his MPAs that if anybody is found guilty of selling their vote they will be put behind bars.

He added that PTI would take strong action against those selling their conscience for money.

Imran also said that the KP Assembly’s future hinges on a crucial meeting between the ruling PTI and its coalition members on Thursday.

The meeting, which is to be held at the CM House, will make clear whether the provincial assembly will be dissolved.

He maintained his opposition to secret balloting and said elections for the Upper House should also be conducted directly.

Imran also criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for laying down the foundations of horse trading in Pakistan’s politics.
