PAF’s training jet crashes in DI Khan claiming two lives

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) trainer Mirage aircraft crashed a few kilometers away from Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday killing both the pilot and the co-pilot. Meanwhile the Pakistan Air Force has ordered inquiry into the incident.

The aircraft, which was on a training flight, may have crashed due to lightening and rain in the area, according to police officials. The exact location of the crash has been determined as Miran area of Purwa Tehsil, which is around 80 kilometers from D.I. Khan.

Army and PAF rescue teams have surrounded the crash site and are searching for bodies of the pilots.

According to the details, a Mirage aircraft was on a routine exercise when it encountered bad weather and crashed in the Miran area at around 4:30pm.

The crash claimed the lives of both pilot and the co-pilot. According to the PAF spokesperson, the Mirage was on a routine flight.

The District Police Officer (DPO) said that the plane parts have been found near the crash site.

The DPO further said that the area had been experiencing heavy downpour, contemplating it a likely reason behind the crash.

The sources in Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) have confirmed the incident, saying the crashed plane was Mirage 5 of the PAF.

“A Mirage 5 — a single-seat, single-engine, fighter aircraft, crashed on the outskirts of Miran area of Purwa Tehsil during a routine operational training mission”, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) spokesman said.
