Baloch terms use of wealth in elections as political terrorism

LAHORE: Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Liaqat Baloch has said that use of wealth in elections is political terrorism and all political parties needed to join hands against the corrupt practice.

Talking to JI workers at Multan before his departure for Lahore on Tuesday, he said if the Senate election became controversial like the 2013 general elections, the masses would lose confidence in the ballot and this would be dangerous for the parliamentary system.

Liaqat Baloch said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold transparent elections. Therefore, instead of taking the Senate election as a routine, the EC should devise a foolproof formula to ensure transparent election. The election on March 5 would be a test for the assembly members, the federation and also the Election Commission because some people were roaming about with brief cases stuffed with currency notes. However, he said the JI would support every effort for ensuring neat and clean voting.
The JI central leader said that the enforcement of the articles 62 and 63 of the constitution was imperative for making elections, transparent and purposeful. Liaqat Baloch slated the raids at madrissahs and arrests of the Ulema and said the NAP against terrorism was being understood as a drive against religious forces. He stressed that the government should clarify its position on this score.
