Shenwari shines as Afghanistan register their first win in World Cup

DUNEDIN: Shenwari and Zardan snatched victory from jaws of defeat as Afghanistan have beaten Scotland after breath taking contest in match 17 of World Cup 2015 at University Oval.

Afghanistan were out of the game as they lost 7 wickets with just 97 runs on the score board. At that time Samiullah Shinwari played a blinder of 96 runs for Afghan team.

Shapoor Zadran who took four wickets has hit the winning runs for the team. He made 12. Javed Ahmadi also scored outstanding 51 for the winning side.

Afghan team chased down the target of 211 on loss of 9 wickets with three balls remaining in the match. This is the first victory of Afghanistan team in the World Cup.

Richie Berrington took four wickets for the losing side.

Earlier, Afghanistan had invited Scotland to bat as they posted an easy total of 210 before getting all out in 50 overs. Matt Machan played litle innings of 31 runs while Alasdair Evans contributed 28.
