ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Government on Wednesday appointed its MNA Marvi Memon as Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
An official statement issued here on Wednesday said that Memon’s designation would be equivalent to minister of state.
Memon, the former MNA of PML-Q, had joined the ruling PML-N in 2012 after resigning from the National Assembly.
Memon was later elected on reserved seats for women in the National Assembly on the PML-N’s ticket after the 2013 general elections.
It is pertinent to mention here that former chairperson of the BISP Maryam Nawaz, daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in November 2014 had step down from the post after her appointment as Chairperson of PM’s Youth Programme had been challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) by Zubair Niazi, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
