‘Relations between Afghanistan, Pakistan have never been better before’

WASHINGTON: Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in his meeting with US Secretory of State said that relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have never been better, adding there had also been “a quantum leap in trust” between Islamabad and Washington.

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister of Pakistan, talked about the ups and downs in the bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan and Pakistan and US.

“I think Afghanistan and Pakistan, working in close hands and in close cooperation, it will do wonders for the cooperation in the field of counter terrorism,” Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said.

“Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have never been better, and that is a very, very positive development,” he referred Pakistan Army chief Raheel Sharif’s latest visit to Afghanistan.

Nisar and Kerry also recalled the 2011 US operation in Pakistan for recovery of top Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and said that the relations had  touched the lowest point that time but both countries have worked to improve relations, and Kerry visited Islamabad in January as the two nations vowed to step up cooperation to track down militants in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan said that “Over the last few months, and I think due to the efforts of Secretary Kerry and the administration, there has been a huge quantum leap in the level of confidence, in the level of trust, and in the level of cooperation.”
