KARACHI: The special prosecutor in Baldia Town factory fire case, Shazia Hanjra, on Monday separated herself from the case on security concerns and sent her resignation as special prosecutor to the government.
Hanjra said that she had submitted her resignation to the Law Ministry. As a private practicing lawyer, she was engaged as public prosecutor for the Baldia factory case some two years ago.
It is to be mentioned here that the factory fire case took a dramatic turn last week, when a Joint Investigation Team’s report was submitted in Sindh High Court, which claimed that the factory fire was actually an arson attack carried out by MQM workers and not an accident.
Sources said that the public prosecutor quit the case due to security concerns. A few days ago there were report that some suspicious persons had tried to trespass into her house in night time.
Though following the incident Hanjra had written to the government on the matter and sought security during her travel to and from the court, but there has been no progress on her plea.
