ISLAMABAD: Overall 184 candidates have submitted their nomination papers for contesting upcoming Senate election.
Senate election would be held on 5th March. Most of the candidates who have filed nomination papers are belonging from FATA and Blochistan.
National and Provincial Assembly halls would be used as polling stations for Senate election. Scrutiny of the nomination forms is being carried out. Instructions have been issued to determine the eligibility of candidates under Articles 62 and 63.
Details of the candidates have been summoned from FBR, NAB, PTCL, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and other concerned institutions.
Concern authorities have been directed to inquire about the assts of the family members from the candidate.
According to statement issued by ECP on Monday it is said that 118 candidates have submitted nomination papers for 33 general seats. Out of them four are from Islamabad, 15 from Punjab, 43 from FATA, 18 from Sindh, 19 from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and from Balochistan.
Likewise 28 women candidates have submitted nomination papers on nine seats reserved for women. Five of them are from Islamabad, four from Punjab, six from Sindh, Seven from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, six from Balochistan.
26 candidates have submitted nomination papers for eight seats reserved for technocrats and Ulema. Four of them are belonging from Punjab, four from Sindh, nine from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and nine from Blochistan.
12 candidates have filed nomination papers for two minority seats of Senate. This contest would be held in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Four candidates from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eight candidates from Balochistan have submitted nomination papers on vacant minority seats.
Overall 184 candidates are into filed to contest polls on 52 Senate seats. Nine of them are belonging from Islamabad, 43 from FATA, 23 from Punjab, 28 from Sindh, 39 from Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and 42 candidates Balochistan.
