South Africa beats Zimbabwe by 62 runs

HAMILTON: South Africa won its first match in World Cup against Zimbabwe by 62 runs while defeating side showed its best efforts to achieve huge target of 339 as Zimbabwe scored 277 runs.

Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to field and South Africa scored huge total of 339 runs losing just four wickets.

At the very start Zimbabwe bowlers gave tough time to South Africans as four batsmen were sent to pavilions on score of 83 runs.

But after that Miller and Duminy snatched the day from Zimbabwe and duo made their centuries. Both the players remained till last ball of the match and played unbeaten 256 runs partnership.

Miller scored 138 runs and Duminy made 115 runs.

From Zimbabwe side Panyangara, Chatara and Kamungozi took one wicket each.

In bating Zimbabwe batsman somewhat showed better performance as opener Chibaha  and one down player Masakadza scored half centuries albeit made 64 runs and later scored 80 runs. Another Zimbabwe player Taylor also added handsome total of 40 runs on score board.

Whole of Zimbabwe team bowled out before playing all 50 overs in 49th over.

It was Pool B match of the World Cup and played in Hamilton’s Seddon Park stadium.
