Govt appoints Barjees Tahir as Governor Gilgit Baltistan

ISLMABAD: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir has been appointed as Governor Gilgit Baltistan.

President Mamnoon Hussain on advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has endorsed the appointment.

Earlier, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had appointed on December 10, Sher Jahan Mir as caretaker chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan after the legislative assembly completed its five-year tenure.

President Mamnoon Hussain, on recommendation of the prime minister, made amendments in the GB Empowerment and Self-governance Order, 2009, because there was no provision in the law for setting up a caretaker government in Gilgit-Baltistan.

It is pePTI Chief Imran Khan had announced to challenge the appointment of Sher Jahan Mir as the caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.
