Cardiologist killed in PIMS Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The head of cardiology department in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad Dr Shahid Nawaz was killed in a firing incident in parking area of the hosptial on Saturday, the hospital sources said, Samaa News reported.

On the contrary to media reports the PIMS spokesperson  said that the doctor is in critical condition and has been transferred to Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where Doctors are trying every bid to save his life.

The sources said Dr Shahid Nawaz was leaving the  hospital after a check-up of a patient that assailant opened fire on him and he received a bullet in his heart and back side of head.

After the firing incident the gates of the PIMS have been closed.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of the firing incident and asked Interior Ministry to submit report over the incident besides ordering to beefed up security in all major cities of Pakistan including Islamabad.

The PM also prayed to Almighty for early recovery of the injured doctor.

The sources added that Shahid Nawaz was a cardiologist and head of the Cardiology department in the hospital.

The quick response force have started search operation in the hospital  to arrest the culprit.
