PESHAWAR: As many as 19 people were killed and over 40 injured when suicide attackers stormed Imamia Mosque in Hayatabad Phase-V, local media reported on Friday.
According to details, the blasts occurred during Friday prayers.
Rescue team and rushed to the site and started shifting the bodies and injured to nearby hospital.
According to eye witnesses, five militants entered the mosque after throwing a grenade at the mosque. People tried to snatch the weapons from the attackers, upon which a suicide bomber exploded himself.
Army personnel also rushed to the site and cordoned off the area and started search operation in nearby areas.
However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak dashed to the site without security. However, they were not allowed to visit the terror-hit Imambargah on security grounds, as law enforcement agencies and Army personnel were carrying out rescue and search operation.
