US expresses reservations on Pakistan’s missile programme: Sartaj Aziz  

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to Prime Minister on foreign affairs and national security, Sartaj Aziz has disclosed in the national assembly standing committee on foreign affairs that United Sates (US) has expressed reservations on the missile programme of Pakistan during the Pak-US strategic dialogues.

 
Sartaj Aziz said it was assured that missile programme of Pakistan is confined to its northern border. The standing committee on foreign affairs recommended that the government should launch a special campaign for stopping the permanent membership of India in the security council of United Nations, saying that the government should win over the like-minded friends.
The in-camera meeting of the national assembly standing committee on foreign affairs chaired by the Chairman of the committee Awais Laghari was held at the parliament house in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Advisor to Prime Minister on foreign affairs and national security, Sartaj Aziz briefed the committee on Pak-US relations, regional situation, increasing contacts of Pakistan with China and Russia including the foreign policy of the country.
According to sources, Sartaj Aziz informed the committee that US has been assured that the missile programme of Pakistan is for the national defence and Pakistan has no aggressive designs against any country and missiles are confined to the Indian limits.
The committee while expressing its concern on the increasing India-US nuclear cooperation said that it will upset the stability and peace of the region and it may endanger the interests of the world powers due to disturbing the balance of peace in the region.
The committee recommended for enhancing the contacts with China and Russia on the strategic matters. The committee expressed satisfaction on the new policy of the government with regard to Afghanistan.
The committee was informed that China is agreed to promote cooperation with Pakistan on the energy and the strategic matters.
The committee said that an free foreign policy should be formed and national interests of the country should be given importance in forming the foreign policy.
