10,000 MW to be inducted into system in three years: Khawaja Asif  

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Tuesday warned that although the electricity shortage in the country would be overcome soon, the scarcity of water is another issue looming in the country.

Addressing a seminar in Lahore Khawaja Asif said that load shedding would end within two to three years in the country.
He said that water shortage was imminent and that efforts needed to be made to resolve it right away.

The federal minister said that land for construction of the Diamer-Bhasha dam is being acquired on the same rate as land in Islamabad. He said the land acquiring is a big mafia and he will not says anything more about the issue. He further said that future generations will benefit from electricity generated through dams.

 

Khawaja Asif vowed to deal with the continuous energy crisis till the next elections as the lower petroleum prices have provided relief to the nation.
Federal Minister assured to overcome the energy crisis within three years and vowed to eradicate the issue before the next elections.
Khawaja Asif urged the nation to play their roles in saving the electric power and stated that the government is not reducing the price of electricity due to already reduced oil prices.
Furthermore, Federal Minister stated that Indian government is violating the Sindh Water Treaty whereas government is enthusiastic in raising the issue at various forums.
He said the government had planned to induct about 10,000 MW of electricity to the national grid from coal and gas resources in next three years.
The Minister said hydel generation is the preferred resource of electricity generation and China has shown a great deal of interest in Diamer-Basha Dam Project and Dasu Hydropower Project.
Khawaja Asif highlighted the imperative of addressing the water challenge and said the government is also taking steps to apprise people about the need for water conservation.
He said efforts are being made to minimize line losses by upgrading the transmission infrastructure.
He said that the government was serious in building Bhasha Dam and the Neelum Jehlum Project would also be completed within year and a half time period.
Taking a dig at Planning Commission, the minister sarcastically said WAPDA was able to build link canals, dams and other projects only because there was no such commission at that time. “There would have been no Taj Mahal had there been a planning commission in Moghul era,” he added.
