ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday has said that the government has decided to scrutinize the bank accounts of foreigners. He said that possession of unregistered SIMs would soon be made a punishable act.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting held to review implementation of the National Action Plan.
According to the details, Nisar urged National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to provide details of foreigners to the provincial governments. He said that as many as 32 criminals have been arrested in at least 26 cases of money laundering and illegal references. At least Rs 71,500,000 were recovered from these criminals, he added. He also said that the committee concerned has passed a resolution regarding declaring possession of unregistered SIMs a punishable crime.

The process of giving authority to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to block extremist material on the social media is underway, he added.
