ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry on Thursday formally announced his joining of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf at a ceremony organised here to demonstrate solidarity with Kashmiris in connection with Kashmir Day.
On the occasion, PTI chief Imran Khan welcomed him into the party’s fold, hailing his decision to be beneficial for the people of the region. Sultan Mehmood was a central leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and a former prime minister of Kashmir.
Addressing the ceremony PTI chairman said: “I knew you (Sultan Mehmood) before as well but when I asked people about you, one thing everyone had in common to say about you was that there were no corruption charges against you.”
On the subject of local government elections, Imran alleged that LG polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been delayed due to the sluggish attitude of the Punjab and Sindh provincial government.
Imran said that in New Pakistan all institutions in AJK will be under the regional government except the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) so it could carry out ruthless accountability .
