It was my decision to resign as governor Punjab, says Ch Sarwar

LAHORE: Former governor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Thursday rejected report that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had taken resignation from him, claiming that he himself tendered resignation.

According to him he sent his resignation to President Mamnoon Hussaain last night.

The former Punjab governor was addressing a press conference after resigning from his post in Lahore.

The former governor also expressed grief over wrong reporting of his resignation.

He also said that he has no differences with the PM Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif.

The former governor told the media that he had come to Pakistan to serve its people, but realized he was not able to do so because the position of governor was a ceremonial one.

Sarwar said that four months ago he had held a meeting with Rana Sana Ullah to express his unwillingness to remain governor but the PML-N leader requested him not to resign because Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf sit-in had created a crisis in the country.

He said he accepted the request and did not resign. He added that he also had held a meeting the CM Punjab a few weeks back and reiterated his wish to leave the post.
