Woman being considered for Governor Punjab position

LAHORE: The government has started considering new names for the position of Governor Punjab after Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar resigned.

In a first for the province, the government is also considering Zakiya Shahnawaz for the position. She is currently a minister in the Punjab cabinet. The province has never had a female governor. Sindh had Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan as governor from 1973 to 1976.

The other people being considered are Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Raja Zafar Ul Haq, Jaffar Iqbal, Rafique Rajwana, Rana Sana Ullah, and Saud Majeed.

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar on Thursday resigned from his post saying it was a ceremonial position.
