LAHORE: Shoaib Malik, Sohail Tanvir and Azhar Ali who had been ignored for the 15-member world cup squad have been selected as reserves, a news agency reported.
A source in the Pakistan Cricket Board told the news agency that the PCB had chosen these three players to go to Australia and New Zealand in case of any injury to any player among the original squad.
It is pertinent to mention here that fitness of many players in the original squad is doubtful. Junaid Khan is yet to recover from the injury he suffered during a practice session before the team’s departure.
The decision was made after consultations with chief selector Moin Khan and the team management in New Zealand, the source said.
The PCB official said that Sohaib Maqsood, Ehsan Adil and Wahab Riaz were also facing some fitness issues and were being monitored closely, the official said.
