10 killed in Nato’s F-16 jet crash in Spain

BARCELONA: As many as ten people were killed and 15 others injured after a Greek fighter plane crashed during Nato training in Spain on Monday, international media reported.

The F-16 plane crashed into a hangar shortly after taking off at the Los Llanos training centre in Albacete.

The plane was part of the Tactical Leadership Programme of Nato was carrying out a [training] exercise when during the take-off the plane lost power, crashing into the parking area for planes, crashing into various planes that were parked there, the report said.

The media report said  that most of the victims were believed to be foreigners and six injured were in critical condition.

Rescue operation started after the crash and firefighters were working to put out a fire at the base and the area had been cordoned off.
