Polio team attacked in Karachi, policeman succumbs to injuries

KARACHI: Anti-Polio campaigners survived safe in a violent attack while vaccinating children underway in densely populated Banaras area of Aurangi Town situated in the metropolis Karachi on Monday morning.

A policeman sustained serious injuries deployed to provide security to anti-polio campaigners, however, the vaccination campaign in UC 6 Banaras has been stopped following the violent attack by unknown assailants.

The incident took place in Banaras Colony area of Aurangi Town while the injured official was shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment later he succumbed to injures in the hospital.

The deceased police official was identified as Tabassum.

Following the violent incident, Additional Inspector General of Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo recommended the provincial government to ban pillion riding for three days to carry on anti-polio campaign in sensitive areas of Karachi.
