ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain on Friday demanded of the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo to tender unconditional apology to about two billions Muslims of the world for insulting the holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by lampooning him.
In a statement issued here, the President said that Charlie Hebdo hurt the feeling and religious sentiments of the Muslims and needed to tender an unconditional apology to them.
He said that insulting the Prophet of Islam Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) could not be allowed on any pretext and all those resorting to such heinous act should shun the practice.
It is to be mentioned here that on Friday protests held across Pakistan against Charlie Hebdo for printing sacrilegious cartoon of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In port city of Karachi, a protest by students turned violent when police resorted to tear-gas, and live firing and used water cannons in a bid to restrain them from marching towards French Consulate.
An AFP photographer was injured when he apparently received a bullet fired by police on protesters.
