ANKARA: A former Miss Turkey put on trial for allegedly posting an insulting poem against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on her Instagram account, foreign media reported.
Merve Büyüksaraç, former Turkish beauty queen in 2006, has testified before an Istanbul prosecutor over sharing a poem reportedly lyrics adapted from the Turkish national anthem and featured insults directed at Erdogan.
According to Hurriyet Daily News report, the beauty queen told the court that she did not mean to insult the Turkish president reportedly titled ‘The Poem of the Chief’.
Büyüksaraç claimed that she shared the poem because ‘it was too funny to me,’ which she deleted later after a warning of possible prosecution.
Meanwhile, the prosecutor’s spokesperson while contacted by journalists said that they could not comment on the case.
