Camera catches plain-clothed policeman firing straight on Charlie Hebdo protesters

KARACHI: As a photographer of French news agency AFP was injured when a protest against Charlie Hebdo near French Consulate in Karachi turned violent and protestors were fired upon, teared gassed and water cannons were used against them.

Though police claimed the journalist was injured in firing from the protesters, journalists covering the event said that the protesters only threw stones at police while police used live fire, tear gas and water cannon against the protesters.

Private Samma TV channel showed video of a main in plain white cloths firing straight at the protesters. The man was accompanying with police officer and officials. The man seems to be a cop.

Many policemen also smashed windscreens of vehicles of the protesters and other citizens at the scenes.

Meanwhile, Dr Seemi Jalami, head of Emergency Department at Jinnah Hospital, said that the condition of the injured journalist was improving and now he was out of danger.

She said that the journalist had received a single bullet in the abdomen.

“The bullet struck his lung, and passed through his chest. He is out of immediate danger and he has spoken to his colleagues,” Doctor Jamali added.
