Pakistani Parliamentarians lash out at Charlie Hebdo for Prophet’s (PBUH) cartoons

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Parliamentarians on Thursday rallied against the publication of blasphemous cartoon of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) published by the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, which was attacked by Al-Qaeda militants last week as a revenge for publishing Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the past that killed 12 people including senior journalists and cartoonists of the magazine.

Marching in front of the Parliament House raising slogans against the magazine, the parliamentarians said that in the West some elements had acquired the right and freedom to insult under the garb of freedom of speech and press.

The lawmakers from across the political divide in the house marched around the Parliament House raising high-pitched slogans such as “They embrace death in subservience to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)”  The Only guide and leader,  Musfata, Mustafa.”

Addressing the marchers, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf urged Fresh government to take action against those who were hurting the feelings and emotions of two billion peoples around the world by publishing blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the garb of freedom of speech and press. He said that it was not freedom of press or speech rather freedom to insult and ridicule of sacred religious personalities, which is not allowed in any religion, morality and law.

He said that it was the responsibility of French government to take action against such elements resorting to incitement to violence.

Earlier, the National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the publication of blasphemous cartoon lampooning the Holy Prophet (PBUH).  Federal Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafiq tabled the resolution in the National Assembly condemning the Charlie Hebdo for the publications, which was passed by the house unanimously.

The resolution states that the publication of blasphemous cartoons hurt the feelings of about two billions Muslims across the globe, which are promoting terrorism and violence in the world.

It further stated that such provocative steps are helping terrorists, who exploit it to further their agenda, calling for shunning the practice of disregarding any religion.
