PUNE: Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been reportedly allowed to spend few more days at his home followed by ‘deemed extension’ until the authorities announce another date for his return to Yerwada Central Jail, Indian media reported.
Mumbai Mirror reported that the actor returned home a few hours later after reaching Yerwada Central Jail as his 14-day furlough ended up. Dutt was allowed to stay at his home for an indefinite period till authorities decide on another date.
Rizwan Merchant, Dutt’s lawyer, confirmed the report that ‘deemed extension arises based on a statement made by the Home Minister.’ He said that another 14-day extension plea was filed before expiry of the furlough which was under consideration by authorities till then surrender was not necessary.
Sanjay Dutt convicted of possessing illegal arms and serving sentence five-year imprisonment in Yerwada Central Jail under the Arms Act in 2013 in Mumbai bomb blast case.
Earlier on December 24, Sanjay Dutt was granted a 14-day temporary release by the authorities of Yerwada Central Jail allowing him to cheer upcoming Christmas.
‘Policegiri’ lead actor sought furlough on upcoming Christmas which was sanctioned yesterday by the jail authorities for 14 days.
Dutt expressed his happiness over issuance of temporary release orders, said, ‘I was looking forward to today and being with family during Christmas. Furlough is the right of prisoners. We get it every year and I am just making use of our right.’
The actor revealed that he has lost over 18 kilos in prison as he has reportedly spent over 18 months in the jail.
