JUI-F accuses govt of deceiving it over 21st Constitutional Amendment

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Tuesday accused the government of deceiving JUI-F over 21st constitutional amendment and setting up of military courts.

Although the government slightly changed the draft of the amendment to please the JUI-F chief but it did not work as Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman and his party legislators did not vote in support of the legislation.

The JUI-F chief has expressed reservation over use of the words sect and religion in the draft of 21st amendment and suggested an amendment.  The government changed the draft clarifying that sect means just religious sect and did not mean any political or religious party .

The sources said that the JUI-F chief wanted to remove the  word sect and religion from the draft.

It is pertinent to mention here that on Tuesday the NA unanimously approved the 21st amendment to constitution.
