Commissioner Karachi issues notification for extension in school holidays

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddique on Sunday issued notification for extension in winter vacations up to January 11.

The notification said that the extension in holidays would be implemented strictly. Any school violating the extension would be sealed.

No school of the city will be opened before January 12, official day announced for opening of the schools after winter vacations.

Sindh education department had recommended the provincial government to extend winter vacations for 10 days in view of terrorism threats, after brutal attack on Peshawar’s Army Public School.

Secretary Education Sindh forwarded application to the provincial government to approve extension in winter vacations.

It is also pertinent to mention here that all the provinces except Balochistan extended the winter vacation till January 11.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has made 10-day extension in winter vacations for all educational institutions till January 11, 2014.

Extension in winter vacations definitely gave smiles to thousands of innocent students, however, not pleasing for the provincial governments due to severe security concerns increased after Peshawar’s Army Public School carnage which claimed more than 150 lives.

Following the footsteps of Punjab government, KP education department also decided to extend winter vacations adding 10 more days for all private and government educational institutions.

Earlier, Punjab government took initiative to extend winter vacations in private and government schools up to January 12 2015.

A press release issued by Punjab education department said that due to security concerns the winter vacations in all private and government schools have extended to January 12.

The education department also issued notification for schools that boundary walls of schools to be raised, recruitment of security guards for schools security and others measures to ensure security of schools in Punjab.
